The second largest school district in the St. Louis Metropolitan Area, the District extends from I-70 on the west and the I-270 bridge on the east, covering 78 square miles, an area larger than the City of St. Louis. Its northern and southern boundaries are the two Great Rivers, the Missouri and the Mississippi, and I-270.
The district includes the communities of Hazelwood, Black Jack, and Spanish Lake; a large section of the city of Florissant; portions of the cities of Bridgeton, Bellefontaine Neighbors, and Ferguson; and several square miles of unincorporated St. Louis County.
- The Hazelwood School District is fully accredited by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- The Class of 2011, 1,415 students strong, earned more than $11.3 million in college scholarships and contributed more than 111,000 hours of community service.
- The District has several partnerships with Washington University in St. Louis. Continuing in the 2011-12 school year, fourth- through eighth grade science and math teachers will have a unique opportunity to work toward a master’s degree on-site while improving teaching strategies. The District has partnered with the university since 2006.
- All three Hazelwood high schools received national certification for their Project Lead the Way® programs. District enrollment in PLTW courses has increased steadily since the 2003-2004 school year. In 2010-2011, 669 high school students were enrolled. Overall, more than 2,100 students enrolled in PLTW courses, including the middle school program, Gateway to Technology.
