Congratulations to Brown Elementary School for being awarded a $2,000 grant from Maritz Arts and Education Fund for Teachers Foundation. This grant will be used to fund Brown Elementary “Art to Remember” project.
The Art to Remember project is a concept that Brown Elementary staff has had for quite some time, but lacked the resources in making it a reality.
“The project goal is to assemble a tiled-wall in front of the school library which celebrates diversity,” said Principal Matt Phillips. “Students will design pictures of their families, which will be turned into ceramic tiles. The completed tiles will be mounted on an existing wall, in a highly visible hallway, creating a mosaic that represents the diverse families who we serve. A wall of art students, parents and staff can, and will, take pride in, for many years to come.”
The grant was submitted by Rachel McNamara, Brown Elementary instructional specialist. According to the grant guidelines, the Art to Remember project must be achieved by June 2013.
“On behalf of Brown Elementary staff and students, we thank Maritz Arts and Education Fund for Teachers, a grant program administered by the Arts and Education Council for their generosity and for selecting our project,” said Phillips.
